In addition, Insulsafe won't settle, contains no chemicals to cause mildew and fungus growth, contains no formaldyhyde, provides no sustenance for vermin, contains no asbestos, won't rot or decay and won't absorb moisture.

Ventilation
Proper attic ventilation is very important when it comes to energy savings. Believe it or not, it can be as important as insulation and sealwork! Radiant heat from the sun penatrates through the roof. If the heat is not removed by ventilation, it will seep through the blanket of ceiling insulation into your living space in a matter of minutes.

There are several ways you can properly ventilate your attic:

~Gravity or convection through roof gables or standard roof mount vents. It could take as many as 20 of these roof mount vents to properly vent a 2000 square foot home.
~Convection or wind driven vents (Whirleybirds) are mainly successful in the wind. However, most hot days in Texas are calm, rendering them almost useless. In addition, most 2000 square foot homes require as many as 7 of these in order to be effective.
~Roof mounted motorized (electric) venting systems are the best means of attic ventilation, but they also cost money to run. However, the money spent when your attic reaches 95 degrees is more than covered by the savings you recieve when your air conditioner is running less. Usually two are required for a 2000 square foot home.

Stark Service Company recommends the latest innovation in attic ventilation. This solar-powered venting unit is roof mounted like the electric motorized unit. However, this unit has a solar collecting plate that charges a battery to run the motor, saving you a good amount of money. Also, it usually only requires one unit for every 1000 square feet of attic space. The investment is high but the long term payback is very attractive.
Keep in mind that all ventilation requires proper sizing and deployment of make up air vents. These are usually placed in soffit or gable areas around the perimeters of your home.
